Forced Birth Extremists

That sound you hear is the gnashing of teeth of millions of Americans who are appalled and angry at the passing of a bill in Alabama which would virtually outlaw abortion, including in the cases of rape and incest. This follows "fetal heartbeat" laws in Ohio and Georgia, which would outlaw abortion after six weeks, when many women don't even know if they are pregnant or not. Again, there is no relief for those who are victims of rape and incest. These are bad times in America.

The states, whose legislatures are made up of yahoos and idiots (like the cretin who thinks vaccinations are "sorcery") are aiming to be sued and go to the Supreme Court, where I'm sure they believe Roe v. Wade, which laid out the fundamental rights for a woman to obtain an abortion 46 years ago, would be overturned. After two right-wing zealots were appointed to the Court by Donald Trump, I'm sure these legislatures think they've got it in the bag. I suppose they do, but John Roberts is the decider here. He has not shown too much of an ideology, and seems to see his role as not making the Court a laughing stock of the world (Citizens United case notwithstanding). But he is a Catholic.

The memes are flying fast and furious. One pointed out that "pro-life" is hardly true--these people who have a fetish for fetuses don't care about the baby after it's born, especially if it's brown and wants to live in the U.S. In that case, why not separate them from their mothers and put them in cages? They also don't care about them when they've been raped, as if these laws are not reversed, girls will be forced to carry to term the babies of their rapists, (like an 11-year-old in Ohio) and if they get them aborted, they and their doctors would serve longer sentences than the rapists. Georgia's law even says these girls can not go to a different state to get the procedure, which is mind-boggling--does George think they own these women?

No, these people are not pro-life, they are forced birth extremists, guided by the principle that women are not people with rights, but breeders, or "host bodies" as the Speaker of the House of Florida terms them. These laws are about religious nuts exerting the belief that women have no rights to their own bodies. Some of these people are women, such as the one who says that a baby from a rape is a "silver lining." One can only hope she's put in the same situation, and soon.

A friend of mine pointed out that no man who made his girlfriend or wife get an abortion would be prosecuted. Trump himself urged his second wife to abort their daughter Tiffany, and I'd bet dollars to donuts that more than one little Trump has been aborted by a variety of women. Trump has no particular opposition to abortion, and just sees it as another way to whip up his barbaric base.

Let's be clear: these laws do not ban abortion. They ban legal abortion. A case of settled law is now being challenged, as we go back to the 1950s, where Republicans want us to live. The fight begins.
