History Is Bunk

Jim Jordan
In a blast from the past, John Dean testified before Congress to draw parallels between the corruption of Richard Nixon during the Watergate era and the actions of the current occupant, Donald J. Trump. Many Republicans, most too young to remember Watergate, found this to at attempt to smear the president, which they aren't too far off the mark. It allowed a few Republicans to show off their general stupidity.

Jim Jordan, perhaps the second-worst congressman in the House (nobody beats white supremacist Steve King) had to have parliamentary rules explained to him by Dean, the witness. Jordan, who is baldly ambitious (he got trounced running for House Minority Leader) is a former wrestling coach, which is all I have to hear. Not only that, but he was an assistant coach at Ohio State when a sexual assault scandal was going on. He claims he knew nothing, which is sneered at by those who were there, saying he did know.

Jordan, later in the week, skipped a hearing for the 9/11 responders' bill, the day after he said Democrats have no priorities. He was one of those missing when Jon Stewart gave the panel a tongue-lashing for their indifference. Thankfully the bill went out of committee with a unanimous vote, perhaps even Jordan showed up to vote yes.

Matthew Gaetz, the House member you'd most like to punch in the face, also had trouble with Dean, wondering how much money he'd made by writing books about candidates who were like Nixon. Dean, who has been doing restitution for his time with Nixon for over forty years, calmly batted away Gaetz's hysterical accusations. When he asked Dean how Medicare for All would be funded, Dean informed him that Nixon did have a universal health care plan.

Gaetz is a vicious toad. He invited a holocaust denier to the State of the Union. He was the only person to vote against a sex trafficking bill, because it would create more government.  He is also firmly up Trump's ass, perhaps hopeful he will get a post in a non-existent second term.

The third stooge in this trio is Josh Hawley, newly-elected senator from Missouri. He wasn't part of the hearings, but blasted them as a waste of time, because it happened so long ago (before he was born!) I think this would be news to Egyptologists, who might as well put down their magnifying glasses, because that was way before any of us was born.

Trump sycophants will say anything, no matter how stupid, to protect their man. They also protect each other--Gaetz defended Jordan by stating that the OSU wrestlers were part of the "deep state." I wonder if this is true of all collegiate wrestlers, or just the Buckeyes.

These idiots have no shame, and one can only hope they will one day get their comeuppance. But their constituents don't seem to mind sending morons to Washington.

Henry Ford, automotive innovator and anti-Semite, once said "history is more or less bunk," which was his way of saying that we should live in the present, and not the past. Fair enough, but history is important to remember, as George Santayana said "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Messrs. Jordan, Gaetz, and Hawley might not agree, as they seek for us to forget the lessons of Watergate.
